(Islip, NY-June 21, 2013) On June 20, 2013, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone visited the Rotary Club of Islip to give an update on county issues. After remarks from Legislator Tom Cilmi, Bellone spoke to the group about Suffolk County’s current budget constraints, the importance of streamlining government and how to foster more efficient interaction between towns and the county.
Finally, Bellone outlined Connect Long Island, his regional transportation and development plan that just received a 2013 Smart Growth Award and which focuses on creating an innovation economy in Suffolk County by supporting transit oriented developments, building a 21st century transportation infrastructure and connecting Suffolk’s major research and educational institutions with innovation zones for emerging hi-tech companies.
