Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Police Commissioner Geraldine Hart today announced the launch of JoinSCPD.com, a new, comprehensive recruitment website that will serve as a central information hub for prospective applicants of the Suffolk County Police Test. The enhanced recruitment website is the county’s latest initiative to promote diversity and encourage participation of prospective applicants throughout the county.
The written exam, which is offered every four years, is scheduled for June 15 with a registration deadline of April 3. Applicants can apply online directly through the website at www.joinscpd.com.
“The time has now come once again to recruit new officers, the next generation of leaders, to serve and protect our communities,” said Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone. “We are searching for individuals who are looking to make a positive change and help ensure the diversity of our department reflects the communities it serves. The launch of the police department’s new recruiting website not only helps us reach the best and brightest, but will make it easier for those interested to navigate the process and have their questions answered.”
“Signing up for the Suffolk County Police exam is the first step to becoming a part of one of the best law enforcement agencies in the United States,” Suffolk County Police Commissioner Geraldine Hart said. “Taking the exam presents the opportunity to not only better your own life, but also of those in your community.”
Requirements including age restrictions and education needed to apply for the written exam are listed as well as specifics on the physical and psychological exams that are required to become a Suffolk County Police officer. The website also features video testimonials from officers and detectives about their experiences in the job and the opportunities it presents.
The lists created from this exam are also used by other law enforcement agencies within the county, some of which have residency restrictions.
In December 2018, the Department launched an outreach campaign focusing on promoting diversity within the recruitment applicant pool so that it is reflective of the communities that the SCPD serves. This enhanced recruitment website is the latest initiative under the department’s ongoing outreach campaign. The Department selected Crown Advertising based in Hauppauge through a request for proposal (RFP) process to lead the campaign.
In addition, the Suffolk County Police Department has conducted grassroots outreach to community organizations, local churches, college campuses and more throughout Long Island and the tri-state area. For more information, visit www.JoinSCPD.com.
