SUFFOLK COUNTY EXECUTIVE BELLONE ANNOUNCES OVER 2,000 JOB OPENINGS FOR THE 2018 U.S. OPEN GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone today announced over 2,000 temporary jobs are available for the United States Golf Association’s (USGA) 2018 U.S. Open Golf Championship. Earlier today, the Suffolk County Department of Labor hosted a Job Fair at the Suffolk County One-Stop Employment Center, located in Hauppauge, to recruit and fill positions in the food service and hospitality industry; event security; parking attendants and shuttle/bus depot attendants; and operations. The Suffolk County Department of Labor has been actively supporting the recruiting efforts of multiple USGA vendors such as Purple Tie by Ridgewells, MTK Resources, Country Club Services, and Andy Frain Services, to bring temporary employment opportunities to our residents for the U.S. Open Golf Championship.

“There are thousands of positions still open for our residents of all ages to take advantage of,” said Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone. “I encourage all those who are interested to apply and become part of one of the most exciting sporting events of the year, happening right here in our own backyard.”

“Today’s job fair will help to spread the word about the temporary positions available for the U.S. Open and bolster our vendors recruiting efforts,” said 2018 U.S. Open Championship Director, Charlie Howe. “Suffolk County has been a great partner and we appreciate the use of their resources as we look to provide fans with a first-class Championship experience.”

Purple Tie by Ridgewells will manage the large scale catering operation at the U.S. Open. A mix of front- and-back of house catering positions are available that include tent supervisors, beverage managers, buffet managers, bartenders and servers, tent chefs, sous chefs, kitchen assistants, action station attendants, dishwashers, and operation helpers. Interested candidates are encouraged to send their resumes to usopenstaff@ridgewells.com or visit www.ridgewells.com/careers.

Country Club Services is the transportation provider for the 2018 U.S. Open. Country Club Services is currently hiring parking attendants, to assist in parking lot traffic control and to screen those entering exclusive parking areas, and shuttle/bus depot attendants to greet spectators and track the number of people boarding and exiting each bus arriving and departing the parking areas. Applications for these positions are available at www.countryclubservicesinc.com/applications.php.

Andy Frain Services has available positions for event security and staff, which include licensed security guards, overnight licensed security guards, un-licensed event ambassadors and college interns. If you do not have a license, Andy Frain Services will pay for your New York State Security License. Interested candidates are encouraged to contact Andy Frain Services by email at usopen@andyfrain.com or by phone at 631-637-3002.

This is the fifth time the U.S. Open Championship is being hosted at the historic golf course, which will be held from June 11 – 17 at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York.  The golf championship is anticipated to generate between $120 million - $130 million in economic impact for the region. This analysis is based on expected weekly attendance of over 200,000 people, which includes players, fans, volunteers, vendors and media.  There will also be approximately 8,000 hotel rooms booked along with an average of 3,500 temporary job opportunities. The Championship is expected to be viewed by more than 80 million people in over 150 countries, creating additional tourism exposure for Suffolk County and the Long Island region.

Vanessa Pugh, Chief Deputy Commissioner Suffolk County Department of Labor said:  “The Suffolk County Department of Labor, Licensing and Consumer Affairs is honored to be a part of the recruiting efforts for the U.S Open Golf Championship being held at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club this summer.  This event has created thousands of opportunities across various industries and afforded the local community the exciting chance to be a part of American sports history.  The Department of Labor is actively engaged in supporting these recruitment efforts and providing these types of services every single day to businesses located in Suffolk County and those looking to relocate here.  For more information, please visit our websitehttp://www.suffolkcountyny.gov/Departments/Labor.aspx or contact us at 631-853-6763.”

John Lafferty, Director of Operations [Eastern Region] & National Events Director, Andy Frain Services said: “Andy Frain Services, a leader in Sports & Entertainment Security & Guest Services, is excited to employ several hundred staff from Long Island and throughout the region as we return to the location where Andy Frain began its relationship with the USGA – Shinnecock Hills at the 118th U.S. Open Championship. We are hiring personnel as licensed Security Guards and non-licensed Event Ambassadors.  Knowing that there are many people who are not licensed security guards in the State of New York who may be interested in working the event, we are providing everything a person would need to begin a career as a registered/licensed guard in New York.  This is a value of over $160 including the individual’s: 8-hour class, fingerprinting and the fee for the State application.  We are hiring all ages starting at 18 years old to as old or young as you feel.  We are looking forward to bolstering the local economy and the labor market by inviting everyone to be part of our team and the experience of the 118th U.S. Open Championship.”

Richard Ministro, Operations Manager Country Club Services said: “Country Club Services has been providing the parking and transportation services for the U.S Open for over 20 years, and one aspect that we always look forward to is involving the local community in this world class event. We pride ourselves on being able to provide a once in a lifetime opportunity of being a part of one of the world's preeminent sporting events to local youth, parents, and elders alike. With hundreds of positions still available we hope we can bring the community's enthusiasm and excitement to fans in order to ensure they have a memorable experience.”

Megan Zebrak, General Manager of the Major Events Division at Ridgewells said: “Ridgewells Catering, the exclusive caterer of the 2018 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, is still looking to fill culinary positions (primarily kitchen assistants and chefs) with talented professionals to deliver an unforgettable experience to corporate clients and guests. The success of our operation depends on the involvement and support of the local communities. The response to the opportunities available with our company has been overwhelmingly positive and we’ve hired over 350 positions locally to date.  We are hoping to continue this momentum and fill all positions over the next few weeks leading up to the Championship.”
