Suffolk County Executive Bellone Announces Return of Regional Bike Share with New Locations and New Mobile App

Bethpage Ride returns to Suffolk County and includes new locations in Amityville Village

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Pedal Share and Bethpage Federal Credit Union today relaunched Suffolk County’s regional Bike Share program, Bethpage Ride. Bethpage Ride is once again available in several downtown communities and parks across Suffolk County. The program is locally operated by Southampton-based Pedal Share.

County Executive Bellone also announced the expansion of the bike share program to new municipalities in Suffolk County this year, including the Village of Amityville, and new locations in the Town of Southampton and Huntington.

“We’re thrilled to see Bethpage Ride continue to grow its user base each year,” said Suffolk County Executive Bellone. “With a new app launched, and more stations available, Suffolk County’s partnership with Pedal Share and Bethpage Federal Credit Union continues to deliver a successful regional bike share program.”

“We are so pleased to partner with Suffolk County and Pedal Share to help bring Bethpage Ride back into so many Long Island communities,” said Linda Armyn, Senior Vice President, Bethpage Federal Credit Union. “We look forward to seeing everyone enjoying the bikes once again.”

“On behalf of the Village of Amityville, I am so happy to welcome Suffolk’s regional bike share program to our community. This environmentally-friendly initiative will add to the exciting revitalization happening in our downtown,” said Amityville Mayor Dennis Siry.

This yearly plan allows for unlimited trips of up to one hour.  In order to participate in Bethpage Ride, users must be 18 years older.

The Regional Bike-Share program complements County Executive Bellone’s Connect Long Island Plan – a regional transportation and development initiative that promotes sustainable long-term economic growth in Suffolk County.  The plan calls for development around transit nodes, investment in enhancements to existing mass transit infrastructure, and implementation of new rapid transit systems to create a robust transit network that connect regional assets and downtowns.

About PedalShare

After launching in July of 2018 in Southampton Village, PedalShare Inc., became Suffolk County’s first public bike share program. Expanding in 2022 to Amityville, we have been working to connect local communities through biking. We provide a clean alternative transportation solution for residents and visitors throughout the County. PedalShare, an app based bike rental program, currently has over 3,900 users riding 200 bikes at nearly 60 locations throughout the County. The system uses a rear App-Based Bluetooth locking mechanism which locks the back wheel of the bike when not in rental. While the bikes are considered “dockless” we have included geo-fenced racks as a means to keep the bikes from being littered around town and keep the area clean and organized. Bikes must be returned to a PedalShare station to complete your rental.

Locally owned and operated we have a unique understanding of the needs of Suffolk residents and we are focused on safe riding practices, providing a quality program, and working with municipalities to alleviate the hassles of typical larger programs. We are excited to work with Suffolk County and Bethpage Federal Credit Union to achieve these goals.

The app is available for both iPhone and Android. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram @pedalshare or visit us on the web at www.ridepedalshare.com
