Four Beaches Close to Bathing
Three additional beaches remain closed
Dr. James Tomarken, Commissioner of Health Services, announced today that four beaches are closed to bathing due to the finding of bacterial levels in excess of acceptable criteria. The beaches are:
· Benjamin Beach – Bay Shore
· Sound Beach POA West – Sound Beach
· Tides Beach – Rocky Point
· Beech Road Beach – Rocky Point
Stony Brook Yacht Club Beach in Stony Brook and Bayberry Cove Beach in Setauket, which closed yesterday, July 25, 2012, remain closed. Copiague Harbor Beach in Copiague, which closed most recently on July 10, also remains closed.
These beaches will remain closed until health officials are able to determine that the water quality is acceptable. In most cases, beaches that are closed will be sampled on a daily basis an effort to reopen them as soon as possible.
