Nineteen Mosquito Samples Test Positive for West Nile Virus

Suffolk County Health Commissioner Dr. James L. Tomarken announced today that 19 mosquito samples (all Culex pipiens-restuans) collected between August 16 and August 18, 2016, have tested positive for West Nile virus.

Ground Treatment for Mosquitoes Scheduled

Weather permitting, the Suffolk County Department of Public Works will treat sections of the following communities as part of its ongoing annual efforts to control adult mosquitoes.

Suffolk County Beach Closures

The following beaches have closed or remain closed to bathing due to the finding of bacteria at levels that are in excess of acceptable criteria.

Falls Prevention Classes Offer Mature Residents a Greater Chance to Stay Independent for Life

Mature residents are invited to attend the county’s national award-winning program focused on falls prevention. The program is intended to empower mature adults to carry out behaviors that reduce the risks of falls and improve their quality of life.
