Hauppauge, NY – Suffolk County Health Services (SCDHS) Commissioner James L. Tomarken announced that two additional mosquito samples from Suffolk County have tested positive for West Nile virus. The samples were collected on July 7^th in Port Jefferson Station (1) and East Setauket (1).

With a goal to help make the “American Dream” of homeownership a reality for more Suffolk families, County Executive Steven Bellone today announced a program to assist first time homebuyers with down payment funds. 

 

Weather permitting; the Suffolk County Department of Public Works is planning to treat sections of the following communities as part of their ongoing annual efforts to control adult mosquitoes.

Hauppauge, NY – The Suffolk County Department of Health Services has issued an advisory against bathing at 47 beaches (list below). The advisory is based on the potential that bacterial numbers in excess of New York State standards, resulting from the heavy rain that occurred last night (7/15/12), will impact these areas.

Tomarken announced today that the New York State Department of Health confirmed that a mosquito sample found in West Babylon has tested positive for West Nile virus. The positive sample was Culex pipiens-restuans collected on June 28^th by an employee of the SCDHS’ Public Health Division. As previously reported a dead crow, picked up in Northport on June 27^th , has also tested positive for the virus.
