Francis S. Gabreski Airport is situated on 1,451 acres of land on the
southeastern portion of Long Island in the Town of Southampton, in the
County of Suffolk. The Village of Westhampton Beach is located to the
south of the Airport and the Villages of Quogue and East Quogue are
located to the east. The Airport lies between Sunrise Highway to the
north and the Long Island Rail Road tracks to the south. The Airport is
located approximately 60 miles from Nassau County and 90 miles from New
York City. The airport serves general aviation and military Air National
Guard Aircraft. The airport was an alternate landing site for the
former NASA Space Shuttle program due to it's 9,000 foot runway length.
Security at the airport is provided by the Suffolk County Sheriff's
Office (631-852-2651). In addition, the Air National Guard has a
Security Forces detail on the airport around the clock. The Suffolk
County Police Department's on site medi-vac helicopter unit also
contributes to police presence on the airport.
The airport maintains a current Airport Security Plan in conformance
with the New York State Anti-Terrorism Preparedness Act of 2004 and
Transportation Security Administration's "Security Guidelines for
General Aviation Airports" dated May 2004.
