Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Health Commissioner James Tomarken, MD, encourage residents who use tobacco to seek help in breaking their tobacco-nicotine addiction and to sign up for Suffolk County’s “Learn to Be …Tobacco Free” program

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Department of Health Services Commissioner Dr. James Tomarken invite residents who are at risk for developing type-2 diabetes to attend a program that will help them reduce their risk.

Stony Brook University has confirmed cyanobacteria blooms, more commonly known as blue–green algae, in Maratooka Lake in Mattituck.  Due to these findings, health officials ask residents not to use, swim or wade in these waters and to keep their pets and children away from the area. 

The Suffolk County Department of Public Works’ Division of Vector Control plans to treat parts of the following salt marshes by helicopter to control mosquito larvae.
