County Issues Advisory against Bathing at 64 Beaches

Due to the heavy rainfall, the Suffolk County Department of Health Services has issued an advisory against bathing at 64 beaches. The advisory is based on the potential for the presence of bacteria at levels that exceed New York State standards.

Emma Rose Elliston and Rocky Point Beaches Reopen to Bathing

The beach closure for Rocky Point (Broadway) Beach in the Town of Brookhaven and Emma Rose Elliston Beach in North Sea, in the Town of Southampton has been lifted, as recent water samples meet New York State standards.

Pesticide Notification

If weather permits, the Suffolk County Department of Public Works will treat sections of the following communities as part of its ongoing effort to control adult mosquitoes.

Twenty Six Mosquito Samples Test Positive for West Nile virus

One additional bird tests positive for the virus.

Cyanobacteria Bloom on Stony Brook University Main Campus

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) has reported that cyanobacteria (also known as blue-green algae) have exceeded bloom criteria in Roth Pond on SUNY Stony Brook University’s main campus in Stony Brook.
