Ozone Health Advisory

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an ozone health advisory for the Long Island region, for Wednesday June 29, 2016. Young children, the elderly, those who exercise or are involved in strenuous outdoor work, and those with pre-existing respiratory or heart problems, limit strenuous outdoor activity. 

New Cyanobacteria Blooms in Southampton

Recent sampling performed by SUNY Stony Brook has confirmed new cyanobacteria blooms, more commonly known as blue–green algae, in Old Town Pond  in Southampton. 

Suffolk County presents Wyandanch School District with the 2016 SHARP Award

The department’s School Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) award
recognizes one school district each year that has demonstrated a commitment to enhancing the health of its students through innovative programs that improve nutrition and/or increase physical activity. This year, the third annual SHARP award was presented to the Wyandanch School District. 

Suffolk County Activates Public Health Information Line

County Executive Steve Bellone and Commissioner of Health Services Dr. James Tomarken announced today the activation of the Public Health Information Line: 631-787-2200. The Information Line is being employed to enhance continuing efforts to detect and prevent the spread of communicable illnesses in Suffolk County. The line is now available from Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
