As Suffolk County prepares for a public hearing on banning the sale of tobacco products to anyone under the age of 21, this action by CVS serves as a reminder that tobacco use is a leading underlying cause of death in America. I commend CVS and many other independent pharmacies that have taken this important step to protect public health, and I hope other pharmacies will consider taking similar action.

The Suffolk County Department of Health Services’ Division of Environmental Quality will hold its regular monthly Board of Review hearing on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. in the conference room at 360 Yaphank Ave., Suite 2C, Yaphank, NY 11980.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Health Commissioner James Tomarken support Governor Cuomo’s proclamation naming February 4^th  Cancer Prevention Day in New York.  The proclamation acknowledges the important effects of behavior and the environment on cancer risk and raises awareness about how behavior can greatly contribute to reduced cancer risk.
