Oversight Committee Meeting Scheduled

The John J. Foley Skilled Nursing Facility Oversight Committee was formed as a result of Introductory Resolution 1971- 2008, for the purpose of achieving cost efficiencies and enhanced revenues at the

John J. Foley Skilled Nursing Facility.  The committee is composed of representatives from the Suffolk County Executive’s Budget Office, the Department of Health Services, the legislature and a representative of the employees of the skilled nursing facility.

Fourth Human Case of West Nile Virus

Great River, NY – Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Services James L. Tomarken confirmed today a fourth human case of West Nile virus in Suffolk County this year.  The individual, who is under 55 years of age, resides in Brookhaven.  The patient was admitted to the hospital in early September and displayed symptoms consistent with West Nile virus. The patient is recovering and currently undergoing rehabilitation.

Suffolk County Toasts Long Island’s Nurse Practitioner of the Year

Laura Giardino, MS, CNP, of Hauppauge was named “2012 Nurse Practitioner of the Year” by the Nurse Practitioner Association of Long Island at its annual award ceremony in Smithtown last week. Laura has been the Medical Director of Suffolk County’s Learn to Be Tobacco Free cessation program since its inception in June of 2000 and has been a nurse with the Suffolk County Department of Health Services for over 26 years.

Early Childhood Intervention Program Receives National Achievement Award

The Department of Health Services, gathered last week at the department’s new headquarters in Great River to congratulate staff of the Division of Services for Children with Special Needs for earning a National Achievement Award for its innovative program entitled “Developing Parent Competence and Confidence: Empowering Early Intervention Parents.”
