Seaweed Cultivation Program Development

In 2022, Suffolk County was authorized by New York State to add Seaweed to the existing Aquaculture Lease Program (ALP) in Peconic and Gardiners Bays. We are now gathering input on the proposed program to ensure that it is compatible with other uses in the Bays and with the existing ALP program. A link to the existing ALP maps is provided below. The Seaweed Program will be incorporated into ALP and therefore, the existing shellfish cultivation zones will also be utilized for seaweed cultivation. As part of the input process, Suffolk County is accepting comments on the existing ALP maps regarding either shellfish or seaweed.
