Suffolk County Shellfish Aquaculture Lease Program in Peconic Bay & Gardiners Bay

Map Review

Pursuant to both New York State Environmental Conservation Law § 13-0302 and Suffolk County Code Chapter 475 Article II, the Department of Economic Development and Planning has commenced the mandatory five-year review of the adopted Shellfish Cultivation Zone Map and Aquaculture Lease Sites Map.

Public comments on the current program maps (Shellfish Cultivation Zone Map and Aquaculture Lease Sites Map) were submitted between June 2, 2025 through July 1, 2025. Copies of the public comments submitted to the Department of Economic Development and Planning can be found using the link below:

There will be an announcement soon regarding the date of an upcoming public meeting and an additional round of comments open to the public.

Lease Assignment

Public Notice & Request for Written Comments on Applications for Lease Assignment

Issue Date: July 2, 2025 Expiration Date: September 1, 2025

Notice is hereby given, pursuant to Chapter 475, Article II of the Suffolk County Code, the Suffolk County Department of Economic Development and Planning has received two applications requesting the assignment (transfer) of a lease from one entity (Assignor) to another entity (Assignee). All applications are for locations which have been operational; no new lease locations are proposed for leasing as part of this public notice.

Comments regarding the applications for Lease Assignment must be submitted to the contact person below by close of business on September 1, 2025. Such comments should include supporting documentation and data to the maximum extent possible.
