Our Mission

The diverse scope of expertise and knowledge of the District has rendered the department an asset to the County’s goal to protect and preserve natural resources. The District’s dedication has been established by increased assistance provided to the agricultural community, private landowners and municipalities and by the many partnerships we established with various local, county, state and federal governmental agencies.

NYSDEC Endorsed 4-Hour Erosion and Sediment Control Training

March 29, 2022 10:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M.

Under the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s Stormwater Permit GP-0-15-002, all developers, contractors, and subcontractors must identify at least one trained individual* from their company that will be responsible for implementation of the SWPPP, and have at least one trained individual on site on a daily basis when soil disturbance activities are being performed. In addition, developers must have a qualified inspector* conduct regular site inspections in accordance with GP-0-15-002.*Qualified inspectors and trained individuals must have 4 hours of training in the principles and practices of erosion and sediment control endorsed by NYS DEC, SWCD, or CPESC Inc. (Training is valid for 3 years.) Training is not required for CPESC, RLA, and PE certified persons.

Cover Crop Survey

The District created a survey for Suffolk County agriculture producers to get their input on their knowledge of, and experiences with cover crops and cover cropping systems in day-to-day operations. The survey is available both virtually and physically for interested participants. Please complete this survey by July 1st, 2021

2022 Agriculture in the Classroom Grant Program

The Agriculture in the Classroom Grant Program is back for another round in 2022! Please check out additional information in the brochure below, and follow the RFP when creating or improving your school's application. The grant is open to Suffolk County schools (K-12) and requesting funds may range between $500 and $3,000. The deadline to apply ends COB Marth 11th, 2022.

The 2022 Long Island Regional Envirothon

The 24th Annual Envirothon will be taken place on Wednesday, April 27th 2022 and will be hosted by one of our sponsors: Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts. The Envirothon is a high school level, environmental studies competition event for Nassau and Suffolk county schools. Please check out the documents below for additional information.
