Cyanobacteria Blooms Occurring in Southampton and Lake Ronkonkoma

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has confirmed cyanobacteria blooms, more commonly known as blue–green algae, in Mill Pond and Lake Agawam in Southampton and Lake Ronkonkoma. Due to these findings, health officials ask residents not to use or swim or wade in these waters and to keep their pets and children away from the area.

Marine Biotoxin in Peconic Estuary Tributaries

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) has temporarily closed areas in the town of Riverhead, Southold and Southampton, Suffolk County for the harvest of shellfish and carnivorous gastropods (e.g. snails) due to the finding of marine biotoxin in shellfish.
