Suffolk Officials Ask Residents to “Get Your Rear in Gear”

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Commissioner of Health Services James Tomarken urge residents to step out to “Main Streets Go Blue” in Riverhead next week, beginning Sunday, to view the Academy Awards in grand style, while supporting local businesses and calling awareness to colorectal cancer, the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the U.S

Commissioner’s statement on CVS decision to stop selling tobacco products

As Suffolk County prepares for a public hearing on banning the sale of tobacco products to anyone under the age of 21, this action by CVS serves as a reminder that tobacco use is a leading underlying cause of death in America. I commend CVS and many other independent pharmacies that have taken this important step to protect public health, and I hope other pharmacies will consider taking similar action.

Board of Review Hearing

The Suffolk County Department of Health Services’ Division of Environmental Quality will hold its regular monthly Board of Review hearing on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. in the conference room at 360 Yaphank Ave., Suite 2C, Yaphank, NY 11980.

Board of Health Meetings Scheduled

In the event that a quorum cannot be achieved, the Board of Health meeting will be canceled.  It is advisable to call 631-854-0100 the day of the meeting to find out if the meeting will take place.  For directions to our new location or access to our offices, please call the number above.

Bellone, Tomarken Offer Remarks on Governor Cuomo’s Proclamation of Cancer Prevention Day

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Health Commissioner James Tomarken support Governor Cuomo’s proclamation naming February 4th  Cancer Prevention Day in New York.  The proclamation acknowledges the important effects of behavior and the environment on cancer risk and raises awareness about how behavior can greatly contribute to reduced cancer risk.
