Lake Ronkonkoma Beach reopened today

UPDATE:  Lake Ronkonkoma Beach reopened today, as results of recent samples collected show the water quality to be within acceptable levels.

Lake Ronkonkoma Beach Closes to Bathing Grantland Beach Reopens

Lake Ronkonkoma Beach in the Town of Islip is closed to bathing due to the finding of Cyanobacteria, more commonly known as blue-green algae.

Cyanobacteria Blooms Found in Mill Pond in Southampton

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has confirmed cyanobacteria blooms, more commonly known as blue–green algae, in Mill Pond in Southampton.  Due to this finding, health officials ask residents not to use or swim or wade in these waters and to keep their pets and children away from the area. 

Bellone Urges Mature Residents to Sign Up For Free Fitness Classes

County Executive Steve Bellone and Commissioner of Health Services James Tomarken, MD, MPH, invite mature residents to attend workshops focused on preventing falls. The programs aim to empower mature adults to carry out behaviors that reduce the risks of falls and improve their quality of life.
