Vector Control

Weather permitting; the Suffolk County Department of Public Works is planning to treat sections of the following communities as part of their ongoing annual efforts to control adult mosquitoes.

September 4, 2012 - Weather permitting, the Suffolk County Department of Public Works is planning to treat sections of the following communities

Hauppauge, NY – Suffolk County Health Services (SCDHS) Commissioner James L. Tomarken announced that seven additional mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile virus. The mosquito samples, collected between August 21-22, were from locations in Holtsville, Northport, South Huntington, Aquebogue, West Babylon and Dix Hills.  To date this year, 199 mosquito samples and 37 birds have tested positive for the virus.

Advisory Issued Against Bathing at 67 Suffolk County Beaches Due to Heavy Rainfall

James L. Tomarken, MD, MPH, MBA, MSW, Commissioner of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, said today that due to the heavy rainfall that occurred today (9/4/12) and the additional rainfall anticipated for tomorrow (9/5/12), the Suffolk County Department of Health Services has issued an advisory against bathing at 67 beaches, including beaches located along the northern shoreline of Great South Bay, in Sag Harbor, within and adjacent to various north shore embayments (Cold Spring Harbor, Huntington Harbor and Bay, Centerport Harbor, Northport Harbor and Bay, Port Jefferson Harbor Complex, and Stony Brook Harbor), and those Long Island Sound beaches that are directly impacted by nearby storm water discharges (list follows).
