The purpose of the Community Member Health Assessment Survey is to get
your opinion about health issues that are important in your community.
Together, the County Departments of Health and hospitals throughout Long Island will use the results of this
survey and other information to help target health programs in your community.
The survey is available in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, Polish and in large print.
Please complete only ONE survey per adult (18 years and over). Your responses are anonymous. Thank you for your participation!
The Board of Review hears requests for variances and waivers to the county’s requirements for water and sewage disposal for new construction, and for storage of toxic or hazardous materials, as stated in the Suffolk County Sanitary Code. A listing of each month’s scheduled hearings may be obtained in the days prior to the hearing by contacting the Department of Health Services’ Division of Environmental Quality at 852-5800.
Commissioner James Tomarken announced today that 22 mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile virus. The samples, all Culex pipiens-restuans, were collected between August 27th and 30th from locations in Huntington (1), Huntington Station (1), Greenlawn (1), East Northport (2), Dix Hills (1), Copiague (1), Lindenhurst (1), West Babylon (2), West Islip (1) Nesconset (3), Bay Shore (1) West Bay Shore (1) Bohemia (1), Selden (1), Holtville (1) East Setauket (1), Patchogue (1) and Jamesport (1). To date this year, 148 mosquito samples and four birds have tested positive for West Nile virus. No humans or horses have tested positive for West Nile virus in Suffolk County this year.
Lloyd Neck Estates Beach in Lloyd Neck, which closed to bathing yesterday, has reopened as recent samples collected show the water quality to be within acceptable levels.
