Health Officials Warn of Cyanobacteria Bloom on Lake Ronkonkoma (Brookhaven side)

Researchers from the Suffolk County Department of Health Services have confirmed the presence of cyanobacteria (also known as blue-green algae) at Lake Ronkonkoma* off Pond Road, in the Town of Brookhaven.

Pesticide application scheduled for Islip, East Islip, Great River, Oak Beach, Fire Island

If weather permits, the Suffolk County Department of Public Works will treat sections of Islip, East Islip, Great River, Oak Beach and Fire Island as part of its ongoing effort to control adult mosquitoes.

Tanner Park Beach Reopens

UPDATE: The beach closure for Tanner Park Beach in Copiague was lifted on
Sunday, August 23, 2015, as results of recent samples collected show the water quality to be within acceptable levels.

Nine Mosquito Samples Test Positive for West Nile Virus

Suffolk County Health Commissioner Dr. James L. Tomarken announced today that nine mosquito samples and two birds have tested positive for West Nile virus.
