Mosquito Spraying

Weather permitting; the Suffolk County Department of Public Works is planning to treat sections of the following communities as part of their ongoing annual efforts to control adult mosquitoes.

Advisory Against Bathing at 66 Suffolk County Beaches Copiague Harbor Beach remains closed

Due to the heavy rainfall, Commissioner James Tomarken, MD, MPH, has issued an advisory against bathing at 66 beaches. This advisory is based on the potential that storm-water runoff may cause the beaches to contain bacteria at levels that exceed New York State standards.

Bellone, Gregory Invite Individuals with Diabetes to Attend Free Self-Management Program

The Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Legislator DuWayne Gregory invite residents who have diabetes to attend a free program that will enable them to manage their diabetes.  The program, conducted by the Department of Health Services in collaboration with Cornell University Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County, comprises four classes that cover suggestions for keeping blood sugar in target range, choosing a healthy meal plan and balancing food, exercise and medications.

Aerial Larvicide Notice

The Suffolk County Department of Public Works’ Division of Vector Control plans to treat parts of the following salt marshes by helicopter to control mosquito larvae.  Should weather conditions prevent completion of the work, it will be continued the next suitable day.
