EnvironmentalQuality Board of Review Meeting

The Board of Review hears requests for variances and waivers to the county’s requirements for water and sewage disposal for new construction, and for storage of toxic or hazardous materials, as stated in the Suffolk County Sanitary Code. A listing of each month’s scheduled hearings may be obtained in the days prior to the hearing by contacting the Department of Health Services’ Division of Environmental Quality at 852-5800.

Diabetes Self-Management Education Seminar

The Suffolk County Department of Health Services in collaboration with Cornell University Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County is offering a free course on managing diabetes.

Free Fitness Classes for Mature Residents

County Executive Steve Bellone and Commissioner of Health Services James Tomarken, MD, invite mature residents to attend workshops focused on falls prevention. The programs aim to empower mature adults to carry out behaviors that reduce the risks of falls and improve their quality of life.

(Hauppauge, NY-April 8, 2014)  Suffolk County has joined New York State and hundreds of communities throughout the nation in observing National Public Health Week, April 7 -13.    This week -- as New York State Health Commissioner Nirav R. Shah, MD, MPH states, “promotes the key components of the state’s Prevention Agenda 2013-2017.”  County Executive Steve Bellone calls attention to some of Suffolk County’s programs that help to protect and improve community health and quality of life.
