Vector Control

Weather permitting; the Suffolk County Department of Public Works is planning to treat sections of the following communities as part of their ongoing annual efforts to control adult mosquitoes.

Seventeen Additional Mosquito Samples Test Positive for West Nile Virus

Hauppauge, NY – Suffolk County Health Services (SCDHS) Commissioner James L. Tomarken announced that 29 additional mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile virus. The mosquito samples, collected between August 20-23, were from locations in Nesconset (2), Farmingville, West Babylon (2), Huntington Station, Northport, Greenlawn, Dix Hills, Bay Shore, Lindenhurst, Jamesport, Aquebogue, Port Jefferson Station, Ridge, East Setauket and Yaphank.  To date this year, 192 mosquito samples and twenty-nine birds have tested positive for the virus. 

Department of Health Services Offices Set to Relocate

The Suffolk County Department of Health Services will relocate its administrative offices next week from 220 Rabro Drive and 225 Rabro Drive in Hauppauge to an office complex located in Great River. The move will be completed on Friday, August 31, 2012.

The Community Mental Health, Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities Subcommittee, Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services Planning and Advisory Board is made up of consumers, parents, advocates, professionals and agency providers who consider issues involving this community and advises the Director of Community Mental Hygiene Services as necessary.  The meetings are open to the public.  Guests are asked to call in advance.

Mental Health Subcommittee of the Community Mental Hygiene Advisory Board

The mission of the Division of Community Mental Hygiene Services is to enable persons with mental illness, developmental disabilities and substance abuse and their families to access an appropriate array of services and supports to maximize an individual’s potential within the family and community.
