Mosquito Sample and Dead Bird found in Suffolk County Test Positive for West Nile Virus

Hauppauge, NY – Suffolk County Health Services (SCDHS) Commissioner James L. Tomarken announced today that the New York State Department of Health confirmed that a mosquito sample found in Gardiner County Park in Islip has tested positive for West Nile virus. The positive sample was Culex pipiens-restuans collected on June 20th by an employee of the SCDHS’ Public Health Division. A dead crow, picked up in Northport on June 27th , has also tested positive for the virus.

Stony Brook Yacht Club Beach Open

James L. Tomarken, MD, MPH, MBA, MSW, Commissioner of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, said today that the beach closure issued for Stony Brook Yacht Club Beach in Stony Brook, NY has been lifted, as results of recent samples collected show the water quality to be within acceptable levels.
