Grantland Beach and Bayberry Cove Beach Closed

Vector Control

Weather permitting, the Suffolk County Department of Public Works is planning to treat sections of the following communities as part of their ongoing annual efforts to control adult mosquitoes.

Two New Mosquito Samples Test Positive for West Nile Virus

Hauppauge, NY – Suffolk County Health Services (SCDHS) Commissioner James L. Tomarken announced that two additional mosquito samples from Suffolk County have tested positive for West Nile virus. The samples were collected on July 7th in Port Jefferson Station (1) and East Setauket (1).

Beach Bathing Advisory

Hauppauge, NY – The Suffolk County Department of Health Services has issued an advisory against bathing at 47 beaches (list below). The advisory is based on the potential that bacterial numbers in excess of New York State standards, resulting from the heavy rain that occurred last night (7/15/12), will impact these areas.
