Community Mental Health, Mental Retardation & Developmental Disabilities, Alcohol & Substance Abuse Services Planning and Advisory Board

The Community Mental Health, Mental Retardation & Developmental Disabilities, Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services Planning and Advisory Board is made up of consumers, parents, advocates, professionals and agency providers who consider issues involving this community and advises the Director of Community Mental Hygiene Services as necessary.  The meetings are open to the public.  Guests are asked to call in advance

Advisory Issued Against Bathing at 60 Suffolk County Beaches Due to Heavy Rainfall

James L. Tomarken, MD, MPH, MBA, MSW, Commissioner of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, said today that due to the heavy rainfall that occurred today (6/25/12), the Suffolk County Department of Health Services has issued an advisory against bathing at 60 beaches, including beaches located along the northern shoreline of Great South Bay, in Sag Harbor, within and adjacent to various north shore embayments (Cold Spring Harbor, Huntington Harbor and Bay, Centerport Harbor, Northport Harbor and Bay, Port Jefferson Harbor, and Stony Brook Harbor), and those Long Island Sound beaches that are directly impacted by nearby storm water discharges (list attached).

Weather permitting; the Suffolk County Department of Public Works is planning to treat sections of the following communities as part of their ongoing annual efforts to control adult mosquitoes.

County Executive Bellone has announced that Suffolk County was the recipient of three 2012 National Association of Counties Achievement Awards.  The three awards were for programs and initiatives developed by Suffolk County and collaborating agencies. 

Bellone Announces Suffolk County Overtime Down More than $6M from 2011 Levels

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone has announced that overtime is down $6.2 million from the same period just one year ago as a result of new polices, improved management and a culture change that emphasizes that overtime should only be as a last resort.  In all, overtime decreased from $22.4 million to this point in 2011 versus $16.2 million in 2012, a decrease of 28 percent countywide.
