New York State Declares Suffolk County Firematics in Yaphank an Inactive Hazardous Waste Disposal Site

The Suffolk County Department of Health Services received notice on April 26, 2017, that the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) has declared the Suffolk County Firematics Training Facility, located at 676 Pine St. in Yaphank, a Class 2 Superfund Site.

Cyanobacteria Bloom in Agawam Lake in Town of Southampton

Recent sampling performed by SUNY Stony Brook has confirmed the presence of a cyanobacteria bloom, more commonly known as blue–green algae, in Agawam Lake in the Town of Southampton, NY. 

Peconic Estuary Program Policy Committee Meeting

The next meeting of the Peconic Estuary Program Policy Committee is scheduled for Wednesday, May 10, 2017.

Suffolk County Department of Public Works – Division of Vector Control has resumed mosquito control operations for the 2017 season.

The Suffolk County Department of Public Works’ Division of Vector Control plans to treat parts of the following salt marshes by helicopter to control mosquito larvae.
