Mosquito Spraying

Weather permitting, the Suffolk County Department of Public Works will treat sections of the following communities as part of its ongoing effort to control adult mosquitoes.

Steers Beach Reopened Lloyd Harbor Village Park remains closed

James L. Tomarken, MD, MSW, MPH, MBA, Commissioner of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, says today that that the beach closure issued for Steers Beach in Northport has been lifted, as results of recent samples collected show the water quality to be within acceptable levels.

Two More Mosquito Samples Test Positive for West Nile Virus Residents urged to eliminate stagnant water near homes

Suffolk County Health Services (SCDHS) Commissioner James L. Tomarken announced today that two mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile virus. The samples, both Culex pipiens-restuans, were collected on July 10, 2014 in Rocky Point (2). 

Lloyd Harbor Village Park Beach and Steers Beach Close to Bathing Copiague Harbor Beach Opens

Commissioner James Tomarken, MD, MPH, today lifted the rain-related bathing advisory from 64 beaches, while closing Lloyd Harbor Village Park Beach in Lloyd Harbor and Steers Beach in Northport due to the finding of bacteria at levels that exceed New York State standards. 

Bellone, Gregory Invite Individuals with Diabetes to Attend Free Self-Management Program

The Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Legislator DuWayne Gregory invite residents who have diabetes to attend a free program that will enable them to manage their diabetes.  The program, conducted by the Department of Health Services in collaboration with Cornell University Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County, comprises four classes that cover suggestions for keeping blood sugar in target range, choosing a healthy meal plan and balancing food, exercise and medications.
