Vector Control

Weather permitting; the Suffolk County Department of Public Works is planning to treat sections of the following communities as part of their ongoing annual efforts to control adult mosquitoes.

Vector Control - 7/30/2012 Cancelled

The aerial spray scheduled for July 30, in West Babylon, Lindenhurst, Copiague and Amityville was cancelled due to operational difficulties. The spray will be rescheduled at a later date and the usual public notice will be made.

Cold Spring Harbor Beach Club Beach Closed

James L. Tomarken, MD, MPH, MBA, MSW, Commissioner of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, said today that Cold Spring Harbor Beach Club beach, in Cold Spring Harbor is closed to bathing due to the finding of bacterial levels in excess of acceptable criteria. 

Health commissioner asks residents to eliminate stagnant water near homes

Hauppauge, NY – Suffolk County Health Services (SCDHS) Commissioner James L. Tomarken announced that 25 additional mosquito samples and two birds have tested positive for West Nile virus. The mosquito samples, collected on July 17th, were from locations in Rocky Point (1),  Ridge (1), Mastic Beach (1), Farmingville (4), East Setauket (4), West Babylon (4), Copiague (2) North Babylon (2), East Northport (4), and Huntington Station(2).
