The PEP is an innovative partnership of federal, state and local governments, citizen and environmental groups, businesses, industries and academic institutions.  The Peconic Estuary Program’s priority topics of concern include:  Brown Tide, nutrients, habitat and living resources, pathogens, toxic pollutants and critical lands protection.  Its aim is to promote the health of the estuary and to protect and restore the environmental quality of this extraordinary natural resource.

Bathing Beach Monitoring Commences for the 2012 Summer Season

James L. Tomarken, MD, MPH, MBA, MSW, Commissioner of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, announced today that the beach sampling monitoring and notification program has resumed for the 2012 season.

‘Muddy Angels’ to Pass Thru Long Island

Hauppauge, NY – Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Commissioner of Health Services James L. Tomarken ask county residents to welcome the Muddy Angels, emergency medical service (EMS) providers and their supporters, who will be cycling next week from Boston to Alexandria, Virginia, by way of Long Island in the 2012 East Coast EMS Memorial Bike Ride.
