Hauppauge, NY – The Suffolk County Department of Health Services has issued an advisory against bathing at 47 beaches (list below). The advisory is based on the potential that bacterial numbers in excess of New York State standards, resulting from the heavy rain that occurred last night (7/15/12), will impact these areas.

Hauppauge, NY – Suffolk County Health Services (SCDHS) Commissioner James L. Tomarken announced today that the New York State Department of Health confirmed that a mosquito sample found in West Babylon has tested positive for West Nile virus. The positive sample was Culex pipiens-restuans collected on June 28^th by an employee of the SCDHS’ Public Health Division. As previously reported a dead crow, picked up in Northport on June 27^th , has also tested positive for the virus.

County Executive Steven Bellone has put out a call to local inventors to showcase their products at the Suffolk County Inventors and Entrepreneurs Club July 17^th meeting.

Weather permitting; the Suffolk County Department of Public Works is planning to treat sections of the following communities as part of their ongoing annual efforts to control adult mosquitoes.
