The Suffolk County Clerk, in addition to serving as Registrar, is the duly designated Records Management Officer (RMO) for all County agencies and departments, exclusive of the District Attorney, Family Court and District Court. As RMO the County Clerk maintains a Records Management Center for the storage and preservation of official government records. Located in Westhampton Beach, the Records Management Center is housed in a warehouse previously used to assemble BOMARC missiles for the federal government. Also located on the grounds of this facility is the Sheriff's Academy and Civil Bureau and the Police Department's Firing Range and Emergency Vehicle Operations Training Area. Procedures for the retention and destruction of records are followed as required by schedules promulgated by the NYS Archives and Records Administration, as well as applicable federal, state and local statutes.
