Cartography and GIS

Within the Division of Planning and Environment, the Cartography and GIS unit is responsible for providing Geographic Information System (GIS) and cartographic assistance to the staff of the Department of Economic Development and Planning and to other County agencies. The unit also provides GIS and cartographic assistance to local towns, villages and other public agencies within Suffolk County. This assistance involves creating and sharing map-based information about topics including land use, demographics, development, land preservation, natural resources, farmland, and aquaculture.

GIS Data

GIS layers can be found at the Suffolk County GIS Portal and the Suffolk County Open Data Portal. Tax map parcel line work for Suffolk County can be obtained through the Suffolk County Real Property Tax Service Agency in Riverhead New York, which can be reached at 631-852-1550.

Historic Aerial Photography

The Cartography and GIS unit is a repository for aerial photograph prints of Suffolk County for various years between 1960 and 2001. These aerial photos are available for viewing purposes only. To view these aerial photos, please request an appointment using the contact information above.

Other sources of historic aerial photos of Suffolk County include the New York State GIS Clearinghouse, Stony Brook University Libraries, and the United States Geological Survey (USGS) EarthExplorer.
